Time Management Techniques

Let us look at some of the techniques that can you can use to management time effectively:

  • Eat That Frog:
  • Do the most important and difficult tasks first thing in the morning. Works well to reduce procrastination
  • Pomodoro:
    • 25 mins of work, 5-minute break and then a longer break. Works well for people who struggle with distractions. Time management method that involves breaking work into intervals, called pomodoros, and taking short breaks in between
  • 1-3-5 RULE:
    • Time management technique that helps you prioritize tasks and stay focused by categorizing your to-do list into three parts
    • Structure your day around:
  • 1 big task
  • 3 medium tasks
  • 5 small tasks

This prevents overwhelm while maintaining progress.

  • 2 Minute RULE:
  • The two-minute rule is a concept from David Allen’s workflow management method called Getting Things Done (GTD). In a nutshell, this rule states that if you face a task that can be completed in two minutes or less, you should do it immediately rather than postponing it or adding it to your to-do list.
  • Pickle Jar Theory:
  • Think of your day as a jar:
  • Big rocks = Important tasks
  • Pebbles = Medium priority
  • Sand = Small tasks 

Fill your jar in that order. Main idea is learn how to prioritize the most important and urgent tasks

  • Eisenhower Matrix:
  • Organize work in four quadrants and decide on urgent vs important and not-urgent vs not important factors. Works well for leaders who need to deal with lot of decision making!
