Tolerance – a Boon or a Bane

It is not unusual that the perception that people in our office carry about us is being Non-conformant“, “Aggressive”, “Not a Manager/Team material” etc… And the list keeps growing!!

In this fast paced “Digital” world the perception others carry about us matters more than the skills we have to succeed in life.

You do all the work given to you by your manager effectively in true team spirit and in the appraisal he says “I expect more from you” when other team members get a “Star” rating just because they are a “Manager material” as they can keep their managers eternally happy by toeing their line all the time!

“Non-collaborative” is what people say when you don’t listen to your peers views when you know that you can think wellcompared to them

You are an effective manager/team member only if you take opinion from all team members who might influence the perception of the top management about you

And the list goes on…….

The question every time that runs in our logical brain is “Do I tolerate all the flaws & become numb” or “Do I rebel”?? The irony being that many a time when you tolerate all the flaws, you are seen as more accepted in the system and when you rebel thennot a good team player!!

However, in the long run decisions made objectively with data/facts in hand helps you establish clear goals/objectives you want to achieve for you and your team/organization. Data is the key to make/break a narrative in this fast paced work environment.

“Tolerance” towards other people is fine and not the system but I think we have learnt the other way around!! Time to Unlearn and be Objective!!

Knowledge is Power! And data fuels Knowledge and Knowledge in the long run fuels wisdom/Intuition to take decisions and manage narratives!
