motives as below:
1. Hierarchy of Needs (Maslow)
2. Hygiene Factors vs. Motivators (Hertzberg)
3. Extrinsic vs. Intrinsic (Deci+Ryan)
Let’s look in detail the Hierarchy of Needs and core values that motivates individuals.
Security – We desire health, safety, familiarity and competence
Status – We seek recognition of our contributions
Achievement – We strive for excellence and take pride in our accomplishments
Autonomy – We seek freedom in our actions and decisions
Purpose – We want to make a meaningful difference
Belonging – We want a meaningful connection to others
Interestingly in a survey conducted across 50+ nations and over 30K diverse sample size it was observed that the
THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE IN CORE VALUES as per Maslow’s Hierarchy.
10 Core values: power, achievement, pleasure, excitement, independence, understanding, benevolence,
tradition, conformity, and security
With few exceptions, values were ranked as below:
1. Benevolence
2. Independence (Autonomy)
3. Understanding (Wisdom)
4. Security
5. Conformity
6. Achievement
7. Pleasure
8. Excitement
9. Tradition
10. Power
